I have had a heart for Japan since I started studying the language in high school. I continued to take language classes in college and then got the opportunity to study abroad in college in Tokyo for 7 weeks. There, I was immersed in the culture of Japan. While I loved the welcoming and hospitable people and enjoyed the clean city, I was shocked to see how spiritually dead it was. People were kind but not very open and they were extremely self reliant. They had never even heard of who God or Jesus is. When I would go to church and tell my friends, they asked me what I would do at church because they’ve only seen things like that in the movies. As I struggled over my language barrier to explain Christianity to them, I felt burdened to learn the Gospel in Japanese. Now I am so excited to be able to go back, learn at Christ Bible Institute how to communicate the good news, and build relationships.
